La Reunion: Modele durable du territoire
La Reunion Urban Metropolitan Environmental Transport Land-use Strategic growth development structure plan
La Reunion needs to find a sustainable equilibrium. The economic dependency on metropolitan France creates a distorted social structure that reflects the unsustainable conditions of the island. From the umbilical cord dependency to the ‘eco-bulle laboratoire’ template, the process requires a consistent effort both from the National Government and the Reunion population.
The territories must follow that effort. Sustainability must be the necessary trend. This means fostering efficient public transport systems and the adequacy of the urban system for the new centralities that have to appear around the intermodality nodes. Some examples of how this would have to work present the need for evolution. The rest of the territory has to respond and complement these basic urban parameters.
